Hi, just checked services. Msc and found the 'NLS service' (Nalpeiron Licensing Service) set to Automatic and Started. It appears to relate to some kind of digital rights management but I can't find if it's good or bad via Google. About Nalpeiron Licensing Service Nalpeiron Software Licensing is the class leader in cloud-based licensing. Used by major software houses who need a modern licensing platform they can rely on 24x7x365.
Learning has never been so easy!
Recently, I recommended that an organization for whom I work part-time buy three Lenovo laptops when there was a need. I've been recommending Lenovo for quite a few years and saw no reason not to continue doing so. Upon arrival, the laptops could not properly apply the Windows 7 updates (this has been documented in Windows 8, as well).
Eventually, I stooped to installing dozens of updates one at a time on two of the three laptops. Additionally, a client of mine also bought a Lenovo at my suggestion with the same issues. This was not an isolated problem, it seemed.
Lenovo adds a LOT of bloatware to their computers, and it seems that their bloatware was interfering with critical Windows updates. Their Tier 1 support was unable to direct me to a proper solution, so I was left to my own devices. I finally found the answer on the Lenovo Community Forum.
Run the installer either in the original disk or the download file to reinstall the program again. Install oracle designer on windows 7 step by step. When a program is installed on the computer, Windows will save its settings and information in the registry, including the uninstall command to uninstall the program. Sometimes, the installer may allow you to repair or uninstall the program as well. You can try this method to uninstall Oracle Designer 10.1.2.6. Method 6: Use the Uninstall Command Displayed in the Registry.

2 Steps total
Step 1: Nitro Pro 7!
According to the Lenovo forum, Nitro Pro 7 is part of the problem. They suggest updating it. I suggest removing it. It is a trial and, unless you are seriously considering buying it, just cut to the chase. Lose it!
Step 2: Nalpeiron: The Mother of all Bloatware
It appears that the underlying issue is the Nalpeiron Licensing Service, which appears to serve no other purpose than to collect data on trialware (aka bloatware) usage. Here's what you do:
1. Click on the start menu
2. Type “services.msc” in the 'search program and files' box and click on the search result (there should only be one).
3. In the right pane of the Services window, scroll down and locate “Nalpeiron Licensing Service”.
4. Double click on “Nalpeiron Licensing Service,' to bring up the Nalpeiron Licensing Service Properties window.
5. Change the Startup type to Manual.
6. Click on the Stop button.
7. Click on the OK button.
You will now be able to apply your Windows updates with impunity!

- MaceRockn Mar 6, 2013 at 04:42amIf you really want the Lenovo to be a useful machine, uninstall ALL of the bloatware and do a fresh install of the OS. I like the laptops with the exception that they give you no means to install a clean OS, just recover the unit to a pristine bloatware filled state. All manufacturers should sell you what you want, not what they think you need.
- MaceMike400 Mar 8, 2013 at 02:04pmContact Microsoft Security about this as well. MS Security doesn't take kindly to this type of crap.
- HabaneroDashrender Mar 8, 2013 at 02:36pmThanks for posting about these specific known issues. Though instead of trying to fix a problem during initial setup, why not just reinstall from scratch and not install the bloatware?
- PoblanoComputerMensch Mar 9, 2013 at 12:35amThat's not always available. I have many clients who are home users or small business people and they've already got their machines up and running and they are hobbled by Lenovo. I also don't have access to volume licensing and Lenovo doesn't supply a clean OS installation disk. They will restore to factory settings with all the bloatware, however. This is the simplest way around it. Lenovo, for as good a machine they make, is doing something highly unethical: profiting from excessive bloatware and passing the problems they cause, along with the cost, to the consumer. One expects to have a working machine out of the box, and shouldn't have to resort to a new clean install upon plugging it in. That's what we pay for.
- JalapenodavidT1000 Apr 23, 2013 at 09:17pmI've seen this problem on 7 thinkpad e430s, disabling Nalpeiron did the trick! Thanks!
- HabaneroChad.w Jun 7, 2013 at 03:07pmMy fix was simply to manually select only KB2647753 to be installed via windows update. After that one was installed the rest completed without errors.
- Sonoradewell Jun 30, 2013 at 02:09pmI followed the directions to uninstall the Nitro Pro 7 and stopped Nalpeiron and this did not change anything.
- PoblanoComputerMensch Jun 30, 2013 at 07:48pmdewell -Did you try Chad.w's suggestion? I've tried that as well, and it worked for me.
- Pimientom97402 Jul 12, 2013 at 08:48pmIn order to install the updates on that Lenovo Think product you should try a Windows 'Clean Boot'. Works every time. Using msconfig disable all start up items and then after hiding Microsoft services disable all of the remaining services. Following the required reboot install that first big batch of updates then revert your start up items/services to normal.I've seen many vendors with more crapware on their new computers. Dell came up with a whole new model line of business computers free of add bloat (Vostro) at $50 extra cost. Nice of them :(On Lenovos I have been removing Nitro, Evernote, SimpleTap, Symantec VIP & Norton. Nitro does not remove that Nalpeiron service so I have been going to the registry and deleting the whole key from:HKLMServicesCurrentControlSet Dvd shrink 4 3 keygenguru. It's right after NLASVC, I forget the name but you'll see the string value with Nalpeiron in it. Again I delete the whole key.Nalpeiron Service doesn't seem to be included in the new ThinkPad E531. Of course the keyboard is really cheap and the new buttonless '5-point' trackpad is, well, stupid if you ask me. Also my optical drive's bezel seems about ready to fall off. May not be selling the ThinkPad Edge anymore if this is representative.
- ChipotleLithiumKid1976 Jun 23, 2015 at 02:55pm'Their Tier 1 support was unable to direct me to a proper solution' same here, id paste the response i got from them, but i don't want to shame them any further.from my own experience, be in Dell / HP / Toshiba, these all update to windows 8.1 fine, but lenovos, really seem to have issues with the whole windows update...
